How do I become a member of St. George’s?

Anglican Churches in this part of the world have a simple rule of thumb:

anyone who is baptized, over sixteen, and a “recognized attendant at public worship” (in a specific congregation) is a full member, or “parishioner,” of that congregation

summarized from the Diocese of Rupert’s Land, Canon 20, Sections 1 & 2

Anyone can attend worship. We consider our services “open to the public,” and we give our visitors a warm welcome. So, even if you are not baptized, we are delighted to have you worship with us. Come, again and again. There will never be any pressure to take the step of baptism.

Anyone, baptized or not, can be enrolled on our “parish list,” which is basically a mailing list – allowing us to keep in touch, and connect one another to the many great aspects of parish life (social events, concerts, and religious festivals).

Once you have attended worship often enough that others can recognize you, you’re a voting “member” of the congregation – it’s as simple as that! – provided, of course, that you have been baptized (…in any church or “denomination,” in any part of the world, at any point of your life! The Anglican Church does not re-baptize those who have been baptized in some other type of Christian church).

Some members who have been baptized as infants, and others who formerly belonged to a different denomination, want to make public affirmation of their commitment to the faith, and choose to be “Confirmed,” or “Received,” or to “Renew their vows.” Contact us for more information.
