Holy Baptism
Divine voice: Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?
Human voice: Here am I; send me! (Isaiah 6:8)
Baptism is seen by Christian churches everywhere as the ceremony of belonging. When you come to it as an adult, it is a tranforming moment, involving both conversion and commitment. In Baptism, you join the family of Christians, and you are commissioned as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Baptism should not be entered into lightly. It can launch you on a road which is difficult, but you will also know profound joy and peace.
While the Anglican Church affirms that Baptism is intended for adults, we gladly baptize the children of active members of the congregation.
The rite of baptism takes place at the main Sunday service, four or five times a year. The day of the baptism usually follows faithful prayer by the congregation, candidate, and their families, along with visits from the clergy. The purpose of these visits is to offer pastoral support in discernment regarding baptism, along with educational opportunities connected with the Sacrament of Baptism.
Following the service on the day of your baptism, there is a luncheon and celebration in St. George’s parish hall. You will be contacted and invited to join the other candidates and their families the day before, when, led by a group of St. George’s parishioners, preparations for the luncheon will be made.
Getting Married
With light from the enormous stained glass window playing over the bride and grooom and their guests, St. George’s is an exquisite place for a wedding. This day marks the beginning of a lifetime, and the end of a time of careful preparation.
In the Anglican Church of Canada, we care about the couples who come to us to be married. Marriage is one of the most wonderful and most challenging undertakings we ever attempt as human beings, and as everyone well knows, not every married couple “lives happily ever after.” As soon as a member of our congregation gets engaged, they let the clergy know about their plans, and are given a number of choices which they can use to prepare for married life, from interviews with the clergy to short weekend courses. If either the bride or groom has been previously married, there are a few additional steps.

Funerals, Memorials
At the time of death it is comforting to have a deep inner faith, and to be lovingly supported by members of the church. We make St. George’s available for you and your friends to pray together, and to visit over refreshments after the service.
In cases of terminal illness our Pastoral Care committee normally visits from time to time, bringing Holy Communion if desired. The clergy also lend a faithful, prayerful presence in the final illness. A simple call to (204) 453-5655 will reach our Priest directly, day or night.
