Same-Sex Blessings

Blessing your Same-sex Union

For same-sex couples who are already civilly married, St. George’s is an exquisite venue to have a blessing under God. With light from the enormous stained glass window playing over the couple and their guests, the couple will make their covenant before God and the Church, illumined by the Word of God and strengthened by the prayer of the community.

In the Anglican Church of Canada, we care about the same-sex couples who come to us to receive the Sacred Blessing of our Creator on their life-long commitment. A committed life-long relationship is one of the most wonderful and most challenging undertakings we ever attempt as human beings, and as everyone well knows, not every couple “lives happily ever after.” As soon as a member of our congregation in a same-sex relationship begins plans to marry with a marriage commissioner, they are encouraged to let the clergy know about their desire to have that marriage blessed in the church after their civil marriage.  Here, at St. George’s in Crescentwood, we now have permission to offer the blessing of same-sex couples whose union has been duly solemnized and civilly registered by a marriage commissioner, where at least one member of the couple is baptized.  Please feel free to contact us if you wish to officially celebrate the blessing of God on your life together in sacred union.
