Loaves & Fishes

Twoonie Lunches

Whenever we have a special speaker or just feel the need for a little fellowship, we ask a few parishioners to make pots of soup or desserts and we all gather to share lunch after a Sunday service. We each donate $2 for as much soup, bread or buns, dessert and coffee or tea as we can eat. Types of soup have ranged from Cream of Pumpkin (lightly curried) to Lemon Mushroom and Gumbo Ya Ya, and of course Chicken Noodle, for the young at heart. It’s an amazing food value for $2 and the visiting value is even higher.

Coffee Hour

Immediately following every Sunday Service we gather to visit and have a drink of coffee, tea or juice. It’s our time to catch up on what each of us is doing and make new friends

Fellowship Dinners

We have events that have become a part of the culture at St. George’s – the Christmas Dinner & Dance, the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and the Maundy Thursday Potluck Supper . We also arrange special events when we feel the need, like the Valentine’s Day Friendship Dinner and Dance with all-you-can-eat spaghetti, salad and garlic toast. We use these events to laugh and sing and dance together, and we find that they help bind us together with a real sense of community.

Baptism Lunches

We have a tradition at St. George’s that if you or your child is Baptised at a Sunday morning service, we will invite you and your family to join our congregation family for a lunch of fancy sandwiches, desserts and drink. We encourage the families of those being Baptised to join in the fun of planning for the lunch, the Saturday evening before the Baptism, where all involved enjoy the camaraderie of making sandwiches and munching on snacks.

Recipes

We have some of the best cooks around. We are often asked for recipes for the soups that are brought for our Twoonie Lunches, or for the stuffing or salad dressing from the Christmas Dinners or from baking produced for the Bake Sales.
