OVERVIEW OF POSITION

Position:                Sunday School Coordinator

Hours:                    Part-time, up to 10 hours per week

September through May (approximately 35 weeks annually)

Compensation:    $17.00 per hour

Reports to:            Rev. Father Sherpard Gwende, Incumbent

Accountable to:   Incumbent and Church Wardens (The Corporation)

Start Date:             September 13, 2026

THE POSITION

We’re looking for a Sunday School Coordinator who will lead the early years Christian education for a small but growing group of children aged 6-12 years of age.  The successful candidate will work closely with the Rector (Incumbent) and in consultation with the Director of Music, developing and leading hands-on, faith-based lessons aligned with weekly scripture (Anglican Church of Canada) to support child engagement and foster a welcoming, inclusive environment that encourages participation.

The ideal candidate will have experience planning and leading activities for groups of children.  A clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector, and Clear Child Abuse Registry record is required.

POSITION DESCRIPTION – SUNDAY SCHOOL COORDINATOR 

JOB TITLE:Sunday School Coordinator 

WORK LOCATION: St. George’s Anglican Church, Crescentwood 

168 Wilton Street, Winnipeg 

POSITION SUMMARY 

Under the direction of the Rector, and accountable to the Corporation, the Sunday School Coordinator is responsible for developing and leading hands-on, faith-based lessons aligned with weekly scripture (Anglican Church of Canada) to support learning objectives and child engagement, foster a welcoming, inclusive environment that encourages participation. 

This is a responsible position requiring skilled planning and delivery of lessons in a fun, engaging and inclusive environment of early years children, the ability to work independently and in collaboration with other staff, most particularly the Incumbent and Director of Music to ensure weekly lessons are consistent with themes in that week’s worship.  As the point of contact for early years education at St. George’s, the Sunday School Coordinator is expected to represent the values of the parish by maintaining a positive and caring attitude to all attendees of Sunday School, parents, visitors, staff and parishioners.  

SKILLS REQUIRED 

  • Strong interpersonal skills; Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment that encourages participation of children across a broad range of ages  
  • Lesson preparation including activities and crafts for early years children aligned with appointed scripture 
  • Proficient in planning, organization and time management 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills 
  • Demonstrated flexibility in lessons and activities to ensure proper timing for participation in weekly services 
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment 

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum: High school diploma OR experience planning and leading activities for groups of 5-10 children 
  • Preferred: Post secondary training in education (early or middle years) 
  • Experience in lesson planning and instruction; leading children’s learning activities 
  • Maintain clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector; Clear Child Abuse Registry 

DETAILED DESCRIPTION 

  • Plan and facilitate age-appropriate Sunday School lessons aligned with weekly gospel themes and liturgical calendar (Anglican Church of Canada) 
  • Design and lead hands-on, faith-based activities and crafts to support lesson objectives and student engagement 
  • Prepare annual operating budget and manage expenses to budget 
  • Source, purchase, and prepare all instructional materials while adhering approved reimbursement procedures 
  • Supervise and support children during designated portions of worship services, ensuring smooth transitions and timely participation 
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment that encourages participation, curiosity, and respectful behaviour 
  • Communicate with families regarding programming, expectations, and child needs as required 
  • Maintain consistent weekly attendance and punctuality, ensuring continuity and dependability in programming 
  • Prepare periodic and annual reports as required 
  • Attends monthly Worship Committee meetings as scheduled (currently Thursday late afternoons)

  • Regular, part-time
